Junior Development & Sustainability Officer / 3 months traineeship

The mission of the Belgian Investment Company for Developing countries (BIO) is to support a strong private sector in developing and emerging countries, to enable them to gain access to growth and sustainable development within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals

Function

This junior function will be based in the Development and Sustainability Unit, which is responsible for the development effects analysis and Environmental & Social (E&S) risk assessment of BIO's investment projects. The Unit also manages the Business Development Support Fund (BDSF SF), a facility which provides grants to BIO’s prospective/portfolio companies to finance feasibility studies and technical assistance programmes.

You will contribute to enhance the BIO’s development indicators data collection, reporting/monitoring and development impact analysis of BIO’s investments and BDSF projects.

Development effects reporting and analysis

Contribute to improve the documentation, reporting and monitoring of development indicators of BIO’s ongoing projects, by reviewing project’s documentation and check available development data;

Work in close cooperation with the Development Team on development data cleaning, management and analysis, and contribute to the analysis and drafting of “BIO towards SDGs” reports

Participate in the (final) assessment of exited BIO’s project by gathering the relevant information and data, and contribute to the writing of the Project Completion Reports

Business Development Support Fund

Support the BDSF Team to collect data, deliver portfolio analysis, reporting and support on administrative tasks.

Within your role at the Belgian Development Finance Institutions (DFI), you will also have the opportunity to touch upon Development and Sustainability topics related to development finance. Besides, you will better understand how a DFI works and finance projects, its mission and how it can create real local development impact in developing and emerging economies.

Profile

  • Master’s in International Development, Political Science with a focus on development policy, Economics (preferably development Economics) or Business Administration. No specific need for previous work experience.
  • Strong interest in Development Finance institutions activities and objectives
  • Minimum skills in database management and/or analysis required (through specific software or excel-based tool for database management). Any (basic) experience in programming will be a strength.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills – you appreciate working in team and can communicate ideas clearly to colleagues
  • Verbal and oral fluency in French & English. Spanish and/or Dutch are a must.
